About this property
Where you live in Oxford can make a surprising difference to how your week feels. A shorter walk to lectures means an extra half hour in bed before a morning class. Having supermarkets and cafés nearby saves another trip across the city. By the time deadlines arrive, those small conveniences start to matter much more than they did on viewing day.
Dorset House Oxford is in Headington, one of the city's best-known student neighbourhoods. The accommodation offers both en-suite rooms and private studios, so you can choose between shared living and having your own space. With Oxford Brookes University nearby and regular buses into the city centre, Dorset House accommodation suits students who want campus access without feeling cut off from the rest of Oxford.
Address:
London Road
Headington
Oxford OX3 7FT
United Kingdom
Headington already has most of the places students visit throughout the week.
The Headington Shops bus stops (HS1, HS2 and HS3) are only a short walk away, making it easy to travel towards central Oxford or other parts of the city. If you're heading to the John Radcliffe Hospital for placement, appointments or work, the journey is also straightforward.
The neighbourhood has its own rhythm. You can grab groceries, stop for coffee before lectures, pick up lunch between classes or meet friends without needing to travel into the city centre every time. Restaurants, cafés, pharmacies, convenience stores and gyms are all part of the local area.
Accommodation starts to feel different once lectures begin. Instead of comparing photographs, you start noticing practical things—how long it takes to get to campus, whether your room feels comfortable after a full day of classes, or whether buying groceries takes five minutes instead of forty.
These are some of the reasons students regularly shortlist Dorset House Oxford.
Close to Oxford Brookes University
The Headington Campus is only a short walk away, which makes early lectures and late library sessions much easier to manage throughout the semester.
Choice of Room Types
Not everyone wants the same living arrangement.
Some students prefer an en-suite room with shared kitchen space because they enjoy living with flatmates. Others would rather have a self-contained studio where everything is their own.
Both options are available at Dorset House.

Where you live can make a noticeable difference once lectures become part of your weekly routine. A shorter journey means less time waiting for buses and more flexibility if you need to return to your room between classes.
Dorset House Student Accommodation is well-connected to several universities and higher education providers across Oxford.

My stay was perfect there! Location is really nice ( close to Headington shops and to Brookes). Rooms were also well maintained and all of the issues were solved quickly

Good student accommodation. Great location for Brookes students. Studios are very nice. No budget supermarket close by.

Dear Unite Students Team, I am writing to formally express my deep dissatisfaction with the recent handling of events at Dorset House, which raise serious concerns about safety, transparency, and the overall quality of service expected from a company of your scale. On the evening of Friday, 21st March 2024, a fire alarm was triggered. What followed was not only shocking but unacceptable: for over two hours, the reception remained completely unmanned, and during this time, firefighters were stuck outside the building, unable to gain access. This failure in basic emergency protocol is appalling. Thankfully, this was not a major incident — but what if it had been a real fire? Residents, including myself, were left without any support, updates, or guidance during a potentially life-threatening situation. To make matters worse, this level of neglect is happening despite the high rent that students are expected to pay. It is unacceptable that we are charged premium rates and yet receive substandard service when it matters most. Additionally, I would like to raise another issue that occurred approximately two weeks ago. A vacuum cleaner in my flat was found broken, and some flatmates reported the issue. This happened around the same time your cleaning team checked the vacuum bags. We were told the bag was emptied and replaced — this was not true, as the bag was still completely full. Soon after, we were informed that we must pay £176 for the hoover. Although no aggressive tone was used, the communication was overly casual and unprofessional — being called “bro” by someone I do not know is simply not appropriate in this context. More importantly, there is no actual proof that it was someone from the flat who broke the hoover. In fact, a few days before, a member of the maintenance team may have used the vacuum to clean up water from the floor, which could have caused the damage. Despite this uncertainty, the charge was uploaded to the online portal as “overdue”, before any clear investigation or communication. There is a clear double standard: you demand immediate payment from residents for damages, yet when it comes to fulfilling your duty of care — especially during an emergency — your team is nowhere to be found. This is now the second year in a row that I have experienced poor service at Unite Students. I had hoped for an improvement, but this recent incident has proven otherwise. I am formally requesting a full refund of my accommodation fees. Myself and many other residents were placed at serious risk due to your negligence, and it is unacceptable that we are paying for services that are not being delivered. I expect a timely and serious response to this matter. Sincerely
Majid
Excellent accommodation; however, the new lock system when using a card to enter your room every time you leave is annoying. Also, scaffolding has been around the site for around three months. Any fixes that need to be made are not done to a professional standard and are sometimes left worse when it's fixed.
