Melbourne’s newest boiling experience. Do you want to experience real summer in Melbourne? This is the ideal place. You can sleep without air conditioning at around 40°C. Want to experience a fire alarm evacuation once a week? This is the place you’re looking for. Want to cook while dealing with gas leaks? That’s a new experience too. Want to deal with homeless people at night? You’ll have that opportunity as well. If you’re looking for a quiet and calm place, sorry this is not for you.

At first, I was very disappointed with the piano, since it was the main reason I chose to live here, but it was broken for the first year months of my stay. I gave a 1 star review complaining, and it gained a lot of attention. Even though it took a year, I was pleasantly surprised when they finally fixed it, so that resolves my biggest issue with this place. Other than that, the staff are very friendly and the rooms are nice. It gets hot during the summer, but you have the option to get a portable AC installed. I enjoyed the remaining few months of my stay here, and I will definitely miss the view.

Unilodge is riddled with so many issues, from the rooms being too hot to stay in without AC to the events advertised as "Sundae Monday" not even having ice cream but being replaced with hot chocolate. The internet provider VostroNet also regularly fails to connect or run. Unilodge regularly sends emails that are incorrect such as "Routine Inspections" that have already been completed. Things such as the pool table is broken for weeks and months on end. Even physical safety issues are not addressed appropriately such as the window panel being broken for over 6 months. I have even had issues with being stuck in the elevator with the emergency button failing to work. Despite my many attempts to resolve issues with Unilodge management nothing has ever come of it and their responses and treatment are disgustingly rude and deflective.

Been living here for almost a year now. The property per se is worth its price. Only one issue is that there’s no ac in the room, so might need to choose a south facing room if you mind it. The people working here are pretty nice, especially manager Zahra Ismael. Everything started to run smoothly after she came here. She manages this place well. Overall, I recommend this place.

Disappointing Experience at UniLodge Royal Melbourne I had a genuinely disappointing experience living at UniLodge Royal Melbourne. The studio rooms are unbearably hot during the summer. There is almost no ventilation, and unbelievably, no air conditioning. You basically bake in a box, and opening a window does almost nothing to help. The staff were not helpful and often came off as unprofessional or just plain weird. The worst part, though, was how they handled the bond money. They refused to return my full deposit, claiming there were “damages” — including a $500 charge to replace a mattress they said I stained. For the record, those stains were there when I moved in, clearly visible on both sides. When I disputed the claim, they told me I needed to provide proof, which is ridiculous — I wasn’t expecting to do a forensic inspection the day I arrived. I had better things to do than photograph an already-stained mattress. The building itself is tiny and quite underwhelming. There’s a small common lounge, a tiny gym, and they overcharge for laundry. For the rent they charge, the facilities are nowhere near what you’d expect. Also, despite being marketed as “conveniently located,” it’s anything but that if you’re attending the University of Melbourne. There are no direct trams to campus, so you’ll either need to walk a fair bit or keep transferring, which makes the daily commute frustrating. I would not recommend UniLodge Royal Melbourne to anyone. The whole experience felt like a rip-off, and I left feeling frustrated and taken advantage of.
