I lived at Neon Wood for 4 semesters. The biggest advantage is definitely the location. It’s close to central Berlin, and being near both the U-Bahn and tram made life much easier. My apartment was one of the 17 square meter units on the seventh floor, listed as a “penthouse.” The wall insulation was indeed quite poor, and you could easily hear conversations from the neighboring apartments. One positive change during my stay was that the cold concrete floor in my apartment was replaced with a material looking like wood. The concrete floor was impossible to clean, and it had stains from the previous users. Ask for an apartment with a new floor if you are planning to move in, also a one facing outside. The ones facing the courtyard offer no privacy at all. The downside is the pricing policy and the extra fees. Every 6 months, or whenever you renew your contract, you have to pay a 245 euro handling fee, which feels completely unreasonable on top of an already absurdly high rent. On top of that, the laundry prices are ridiculous as well. One cycle was 5 euros before I moved out. What bothered me most, though, was that after I had decided to move out of an apartment I had been paying 1127 euros for, I was then offered the same apartment for 997 euros. That felt insulting. First, they pressure you into renewing early by making you worry that someone else might take your apartment and that you may have to move out, and then shortly before the new rental period starts, they send you an email saying they have lowered the price because they still haven’t rented it out. To me, that feels like a clear attempt to take advantage of tenants. This approach really needs to change.

I have had a very good experience living at Neon Wood. The location is convenient, the building is modern, and the facilities are well maintained. The staff have also been helpful and friendly whenever I needed support. Overall, it is a comfortable and convenient place for students to live. I would be happy to recommend it.

Update: There‘s water damage since the rainfalls in Summer 2025. it’s leaking in the rooms. There have been several occasions now where staff has entered my apartment without providing an explanation and without previous announcement. Things have disappeared after these incidents. tl;dr okay-ish but overpriced rooms, terrible accessibility and extremely toxic environment, AVOID AT ALL COSTS The big glaring issue the Neon Wood Student apartments is the large amount of students who are apparently only there to permanently party. These party happen with loud music very well into 3am. There’s a security service til 12am, but this is hardly effective as people just start partying afterwards. Then, the atmosphere is very toxic and lacking of respect. Since when you complain to your neighbors, they will physically attack you, throw eggs at your windows or otherwise respond very poorly. So, generally, it is more advisable to be careful and call the police instead. The house management adds to this toxic environment. When reporting misbehavior, the house management tries to deflect your complaints as much as possible. As an example, for the egging incident, their only response was „This is stalking, you have to go to the police“ even though the house management is very well the first address to complain to. Interestingly, it seems to depend on the way you dramatize your complaint. Neighbors that I directly asked before to turn down loud music that you could hear in large parts of the building managed to complain about this incident to the point where I got an official notice threatening me with termination of contract. It seems the house management is solely interested in maintaining the status quo of a „student-friendly“ meaning anything goes party environment. If you’re fine with the extreme toxicness of this environment, be warned that this building is hardly accessible. There are several staircases with each having a rather tight elevator. I think it is theoretically possible using a wheelchair to get from the entrance of the building to any of the apartments. Many doors are operated with a keycard though and only open by pushing/pulling manually. In some parts of the building, for example when trying to g to access the launderette from one side, there’s a steep flight of stairs. If you’re fine with the toxic environment and can work around the accessibility barriers, then you can find for 1300€-ish an okay apartment with good connectivity to public transport.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Neonwood Student Accommodation, and a huge part of that is thanks to Juliane Piecha and Vasilis. From day one until the very end of my stay, they have both been incredibly supportive, responsive, and genuinely kind. Whether it was helping with administrative details, solving small day-to-day issues, or simply being there with a friendly and reassuring attitude, they always went above and beyond. What really stands out is how much they care about residents — you never feel like just another tenant. Their professionalism combined with a personal touch made my stay smooth, comfortable, and truly enjoyable. I’m very grateful for everything they’ve done and couldn’t have asked for better support during my time here. Thank you Juliane and Vasilis for making Neonwood feel like home!

Extremely Disappointing Experience at Neon Wood Mitte I have finally taken the time to write this review after living at Neon Wood Mitte for six months — an experience that was, unfortunately, deeply unsatisfactory. Despite the high price (even by Berlin standards), the overall service, facilities, and staff attitude were consistently unacceptable. 1. Misleading Advertising One of the main reasons I chose this residence was the advertised gym, which turned out to be located in a completely different Neon Wood building, over an hour away. The website presentation is intentionally vague, which borders on false advertising. 2. Unprofessional and Rude Staff The reception staff were consistently unhelpful and often outright rude. They refused to assist with basic inquiries and frequently responded with "it's not our problem" or "you need to sort it out yourself." Their presence seemed more ornamental than functional. 3. Pest Infestation I experienced a severe infestation of ladybugs and beetles — not a minor inconvenience. My windows and balcony were completely covered. When I asked for help, the only response I received was to "keep the windows shut" — during the peak of summer heat. No support, no pest control measures. 4. Poor Facility Maintenance The washing machines were often out of order and in terrible condition. Promised equipment such as vacuum cleaners were either missing or broken — yet residents are still expected to maintain a spotless room. 5. Deposit and Exit Issues During checkout, I was questioned about scratches on the walls — which were there when I moved in. Thankfully, I had taken a video upon arrival. There was no proper room inspection during move-in, yet they seemed eager to find reasons to withhold money upon move-out. Conclusion Living at Neon Wood Mitte was one of the most frustrating housing experiences I’ve had. Poor management, false promises, and unprofessional treatment of residents make this place completely unworthy of its price tag. I would never recommend this residence — not under any circumstances.
