Accommodation that's a lifesaver if things are really tough financially. If you have some money saved (around €1500 for the deposit and waiting for housing benefits), rent an apartment on your own. In the end, I moved out and for almost twice the square footage, I pay less than the CROUS (9m² for €275 versus 16m² for €180 (€250 housing benefit on a rent of €425)). The CROUS is fighting against cockroaches, but it's a nightmare. Almost all CROUS residences have cockroach problems because we're crammed together and also because of some unclean students. I had an infestation, and I think I had one from the beginning because there was a kind of cocoon right at the entrance. In any case, if you want to maximize your chances of not getting them, it's best to open your shutters every day, all day long, and ventilate well to let in light. Have a bin that closes and empty it very often, wash your dishes regularly, and don't leave any food or crumbs lying around. And alert the CROUS reception if you see any in your accommodation; the woman in charge of pest control is responsive and competent. However, the team of women at the reception desk is less so. Half the time it's either an absolutely lovely woman or an awful one who sighs and speaks aggressively. There are two or three like that. The CROUS is impossible to reach by phone; if you want to contact them, email works better. And as for the reception desk, it's no better; half the time there's no one there, even though the signs say it's supposed to have been open for an hour. Except there's only one reception desk for six buildings 🫥. The washing machines and dryers are a different story; there are so few machines for the number of students. Some weeknights, especially from Wednesday onwards, you have to queue. The communal kitchens are quite good; there's a cleaning lady who cleans during the week. It's well located if you're studying at the university, and the apartments, although very small, are bright and well-furnished.

The Mansart Residence is one of the most beautiful student residences managed by the CROUS (Regional Center for Student Services) in Dijon. Before entering the residence, there's a theater and a restaurant, both owned by the CROUS, to make student life easier and more enjoyable. However, part of the building is infested with insects like cockroaches. I hope the management will get rid of them once and for all. The management of the Mansart Residence is responsible and responsive. Well done to them!

An attractive price, certainly, since it's only half my rent, unlike the others. But there was a cockroach infestation even before I arrived... I reported it, but it made no difference. "Unfortunately, you know, the company only comes when there's at least one or two buildings to disinfect." What do you mean? I can't sleep anymore because I have cockroaches in my bed at 4:30 AM. I open my eyes and there's one next to my head. They're not going to pay my rent, as far as I know. Not to mention there are also some in the communal kitchen. OBVIOUSLY
